Men: When Is it Time to Let Her Be Step Mom?
Just as well as you men don't like another man around your kids, we women feel the same way! When is it appropriate for your new girlfriend or baby's mother to be a teaching your kid life lessons?
It depends! No matter if your woman or spouse has raised children or is already a mother, she still does not know your child as well as you the father do. She is a new person in your child's life and you must keep that in mind! Children's minds at their age react in basically two ways, good or bad, right or wrong, and mean or nice. And if your new woman falls into that mean category get ready to have problems! With your kids mother as well!
How can you avoid this situation? Give your child and your girl time to get to know each other. Do not force them to interact! If you force them to interact something so simple as a pillow fight between the two can be turned into something more dramatic if a child feel they are losing! So keep in mind that your children are children and sometimes new people and things can be confusing. Have a talk with your son or daughter before you introduce someone new to them. It will make the transition much easier!
